Goodbye naptimes, au revoir recess, farewell childhood and being a kid. Good day deadlines, hello responsibility, nice to finally meet you college and adulthood! It’s been 18 years in the making, but finally I’ve made it! I’ve finished one chapter in my life and I’m both ready and excited to start a new one, I’m turning the page over to Advertising and Integrated Marketing.
Growing up wasn’t always so thrilling to me. I remember the days when I could rely heavily on my parents, fly through school easily, and not worry about my future. But the day I entered my first class at St. Lawrence I realized something— my future is now! Everything I do from here on out influences where I’ll be in ten years, and I have no intent on aiming for less then the best.
As my one professor, Robin, would put it, I suffered from major FUDS the first week of school. I was nervous meeting new people, scared of speaking up and absolutely terrified that I made the wrong decision coming to St. Lawrence. But as the days passed, and I got to know more people, I felt more assured in my choice. I find this field perfect for me. I’ve always been confident in my creativity, I’ve always scrutinized advertising techniques, and I’ve always known from a young age that I would eventually work in media. In fact, I recently discussed with a man in the business himself, named Grant Barber. He works for “Corus Entertainment” (www.corusent.com) and from listening to his experiences I feel like this is where I really want to be.
So here I am! Eagerly ready to start new adventures! When I was asked to write a weekly blog, I didn’t hesitate, I started mentally recording what has went on the first week, and I was anticipating the time I would get to sit down and reflect my feelings. And trust me, its all excitement! I come home everyday and start gushing about what went on in class with such enthusiasm that someone has to literally shut me up! But I love it!
